August paint log

August has seen another very productive month at my painting table.

Firstly, I wanted to finish painting the remainder of the eFeora list I took to the Heat III of the London Steamroller event. I managed to get it all done and managed to snaffle third place in the Golden Thrall. Just to be clear, this was not because my army is brilliantly painted (although I am pleased with their unified look). I actually won the prize because I was one of three people to have a fully painted army. Of course I never entertained the idea of winning a painting prize, but this just shows what can happen if you have a fully painted army.

Secondly, I wanted to get as many of my jacks painted up. There is a bit of a Summer Rampage league going on at the club at the moment in which Unbound games can be played. I managed to get all but two of my jacks finished. The two in question are the Avatar and a Devout. I just am not motivated enough to finish the Avatar off for the time being, while the Devout has caused me a little problem. I tried to remove him from the ‘scenic’ base he came with (a job lot from eBay), and I managed to twist his foot off (it was not a clean break). So I’ve got to try and pin it back on or something (???). But my interest in the Summer Rampage has cooled as I’ve been looking to play a bit more Malifaux and Infinity (finally taking that WarmaHordes break I’ve been looking for).

So here is a little recap of what I’ve done this month:

Amon, Dervish x 3, Devout, Epic Feora, Flameguard Cleansers (max) + UA, Revenger, Repenter, Vanquisher base coated à finished and based
Daughters of the Flame assembled bare metal à finished and based
Blood of Martyrs, Redeemer, Repenter, Sanctifier unassembled à finished and based

I cannot believe that I have finished off 30 minis this month, which surpasses the twenty-odd models finished off last month. At this rate, I could have my Menoth army fully painted before November (where I will be participating in nanowrimo again – no wargames or anything wargame related for 30 days).

In preparation for the task of painting up the remainder of my Menoth, I managed to also do the following:

Allegiant, Reclaimer, Vindictus, Zealots (max) unassembled à undercoated
Errant UA, High Reclaimer, Testament, Wracks, unassembled à assembled

I have also resolved to help myself further in the task of having a fully painted army by not actually buying any more minis for the time being. This was actually last months promise to myself but I just had to go and buy a Sanctifier and the BoM and SoH upgrade kits (I had two plastic jacks from the two-player starter set). As it turned out, one of the plastic jacks was a Vanquisher which doesn’t have an open fist (Flame Belcher) so I’ll have to get myself another plastic jack kit anyway. I also wanted to get the Vessel of Judgement, but that is going to be put on hold along with my Farrow project (truth is,  I actually have to buy a new motherboard and processor for my PC. It broke down last October and I haven’t actually gotten round to fixing it yet. So now I have to spend the next few months minis budget doing so).

So what are my post Menoth plans? What am I going to concentrate on with regards to painting? Retribution or Skorne? I think my preference would be Retribution as I really want to get myself an Arkantrik Force Generator. This would be a really nice addition to my force, which stands at 50.89% painted (with another 28.57% just needing finishing touches and/or basing). Skorne are just about ahead on the path of completeness, but I am just a little (the slightest of margins) less inspired by them. I could also finish painting the rest of my Malifaux minis, which shouldn’t take that long at all. We shall see in December.
